A Guide To Stamp Collecting
by Joseph Then
Are you sick and tired of sitting at home and not doing
anything? Well I am. It bores me. However, I have discovered a
hobby that is very interesting. I am sure you have heard about
stamp collecting but I expect you to shrug me off because you
think that you are better off sitting at home and not doing
anything rather than stamp collecting.
You may not know this so let me tell you a secret. Stamp
collecting can be very mesmerizing and fulfilling. It may look
boring but if you have not tried stamp collecting, who are you
to judge am I right? So, lets begin by tellin you the basic
needs to start your collection.
The first step is to get the stamps. So, how do you get the
stamps? Well, simple. You can purchase a large packet of
stamps. You can get these stamps at bookstores or if you
prefer, you can get it from a ship where they sell all the
collector's stamps. However, it may be costly. If you do not
intend to splurge money on your new found hobby, you may remove
stamps from packages. This will give you a head start in your
stamp collection.
You may be thinking of ways or even boxes to store your
stamps. But wait. All you need is an album with hinges. Why
can't you just paste the stamps on the album or even paste in
on a cardboard. Let me tell you the secret of having
hinges. By having hinges, it allows you stamps
enthusiasts to classify and rearrange your stamps by any way
you like in future, when your collection gets bigger.
However, there is one other thing you should note too when
getting an album. You have to ensure that the album has hinges.
The hinges will help you fix the stamps to the album. It is not
advisable for you to paste you stamps with glue. Why? It is
because, by gluing you stamps to the album, it makes the stamps
have permanent positions and thus, you will not be able to
classify your stamps in future.
You should also make sure that once all your stamps are in
an album, it is still no considered safe. This is because there
are always natural disasters like flood and fire. The safest
possible to keep your album is by keeping them in a polythene
packet so that they do not get wetted by water.
Other than having the stamps and a place to store them, you
also need to try to appreciate the stamps. Having them in an
album is good enough but you may also need magnifying glass to
look at the fine details of the stamps. You may also need stamp
tongs. This is essential as it prevents you from damaging the
stamps by touching them.
Now that you know this, your stamp collection is only a step
away. Why don't you get your family or even your friends to
start donating stamps to you? Remember to take a closer look at
the stamp!
